LG may have withdrawn entirely from the smartphone market but it is quite odd that the Korean company has been nice about software support, as they do not want to let down their customers.
So the company announced that selected models of their devices would be updated to Android 12 and even up to Android 13, and that they have already started the rollouts for the Velvet.
Now, a new LG device will be joining this party. The new device referred to here is the LG V60 ThinQ, arriving in the US and those units sold by TMobile specifically. There have been multiple reports from people that own this device on Reddit claiming to have received the update to Android 12.
Of course, the news is an excellent one but it is also rather odd because the LG V60 was not on any of LG’s two lists of devices that are eligible. It seems the company just wants to surprise us continuously and we do not in any way mind that.
More About The Addition Of Android 12 to LG V60 ThinQ in the US
Several reports are seen on Reddit which indicates that the update is made available on the T-Mobile variant. Not much of a changelog is included in the notice that appears on the devices of the users. However, the update comprises bug fixes, March security patch, Android 12 and system improvements.
The Android 12 update rollout to LG started in March. The update has been released to the US versions as well. Not minding the LG wing, LG V60 was the last standard of the company’s flagship phone and it competes with Samsung’s best Android phones.
Regardless of some shortcomings, the device is quite popular among LG users for its battery life, great camera performance and its price tag that is cheap when compared to other flagship devices.
We have not gotten any report so far, about other variants receiving the update but it will not take long for other carrier versions and regions to get the update. Also, as per LG’s promise, the LG V60 is expected to receive at least one more major OS upgrade, which probably will arrive later in 2023.
Regardless, the changelog of the update is vague and short but you should expect to enjoy all the goodies that were packed into the Android 12 release by Google last year, together with some LG paint on top.
Aside that, you will receive the March 2022 security patch level, which isn’t current obviously. But can we really have complaints when the company issuing it has stopped producing smartphones to the best of our knowledge.
The Download size of the update is about 1.17GB. So you will have to grab it using a very fast network. As usual, there is a chance that the rollout is staged so it is possible that it will take a few more days before it gets to all of the units of V60 still out there in the wild.
